Helgi Tomasson: 35 years of artistry goes virtual
On February 27, 2020, MP+D opened our exhibit, Helgi Tomasson: 35 Years of Artistry, to celebrate Tomasson's 35th anniversary as the longest-serving, sole artistic director of San Francisco Ballet. During his tenure, Tomasson has choreographed more than 50 works, including five full-length ballets, the most by any company director in SF Ballet's history. As we prepare to welcome back visitors in person (reopening date to be announced), it is our pleasure to launch a virtual version of this exhibit in cooperation with San Francisco Ballet.
The virtual exhibit looks back at Tomasson's works for the company, highlighting his full-length productions -- Swan Lake (1988/2009), The Sleeping Beauty (1990), Romeo & Juliet (1994), and Giselle (1999). This online exhibit features digital versions of the photographs that are on display at MP+D as well as some never before seen images by San Francisco Ballet photographer, Erik Tomasson.
