MP+D receives Clir Recordings at risk grant
MP+D is excited to announce that it has received funding from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for a major preservation / access project.
On April 30, CLIR awarded a $47,795 Recordings at Risk grant to MP+D to support its project Preserving a Decade of San Francisco Bay Area Performances: Digitizing ED-Betas by Ted Helminski. The project will digitize and provide access to 400 recordings of San Francisco Bay Area dance, theatre, opera, and musical performances recorded by videographer Ted Helminski on the rare and obsolete ED-Beta format. The performances document the rich performing arts scene in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1988-1998 and include performances by more than 100 diverse local and visiting artists and companies such as Alonzo King LINES Ballet, American Conservatory Theater, Contraband, Escola Nova De Samba, Harupin-Ha, Khadra International Folk Ballet, Magic Theatre, Oakland Ballet Company, ODC, Pocket Opera, San Francisco Taiko Dojo, Smuin Ballet, Zaccho Dance Theatre, and 42nd Street Moon, to name a few.
CLIR's Recording at Risk grant program is made possible by funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. MP+D's project was one of only 17 selected from a total of 100 applications. CLIR is an independent, nonprofit organization that forges strategies to enhance research, teaching, and learning environments in collaboration with libraries, cultural institutions, and communities of higher learning.
